A wise man once said, "I can predict the future."
"Amazing!" The people shouted, "How can you do that?"
"It's easy", he said, "Most likely it will be a continuation of the present."
Even when the present is not what they would like it to be, most people choose to continue on the path they know. They follow the road that is familiar and perhaps comfortable. Even when they come to a branch in the road, they might ignore it, and continue on the same path. It should come as no surprise that past experiences are being recycled in the present.
My experience as a professional life coach tells me that most people know what they don't want in their lives, or they are clear about the things they no longer want, but they cannot clearly envision the life they really do want.
Try this ... "Don't think of a blue balloon."
More likely than not, you are thinking of a blue balloon at this very moment!
You need to visualize the blue balloon first in order to know what not to think about. When you focus on the things you don't want in your life, your attention will take you there anyway. What you focus on expands!
In order to make any changes in your life, all you really have to do is turn, perhaps ever so slightly, in the direction you truly want to go and focus your attention on what you want.
The past is a trail that is behind us. It is neither good or bad, only thinking it is, makes it so. Allow yourself to carry only those experiences, beliefs and memories from the past that will support you on the road ahead.
Accept where you are today, because this is the only place from which you can move forward.
An attitude of acceptance allows change and the opportunity to find a new direction.
Ask yourself, "Where can I go from here?", or "What steps can I take today that will take me down that path?"
